The Cambridge of the East - Zhejiang University

Reputed as "Cambridge of the East" by Joseph Needham (twice visited ZJU in 1944) in China's modern history of higher education, Zhejiang University has been consistently ranked as among top 3 in the nation.

Zhejiang University (ZJU; simplified Chinese: 浙江大学; traditional Chinese: 浙江大學; pinyin: Zhèjiāng Dàxué; Wade-Giles: Che-chiang-ta-hsüeh), sometimes referred to as Zheda, is a national university in China. Founded in 1897, Zhejiang University is one of China's oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education.[2] The university is one of the nine members of the C9 League.

Zhejiang University is located approximately 112 miles (180 km) southwest of Shanghai in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Zhejiang University Library collection contains about 6.9 million volumes[3], making it one of the largest academic libraries in the country[4]. The university focuses on both undergraduate and graduate education.

What is a Doctor???

A physician—also known as doctor of medicine, medical doctor, or simply doctor—practices the ancient profession of medicine, which is concerned with maintaining or restoring human health through the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disease or injury. This properly requires both a detailed knowledge of the academic disciplines (such as anatomy and physiology) underlying diseases and their treatment—the science of medicine—and also a decent competence in its applied practice—the art or craft of medicine.

Both the role of the physician and the meaning of the word itself vary significantly around the world, but as generally understood, the ethics of medicine require that physicians show consideration, compassion and benevolence for their patients.

Life is short, and Art long;

the crisis fleeting; experience perilous, and decision difficult.

The physician must not only be prepared to do what is right himself,

but also to make the patient, the attendants, and externals cooperate.

—First aphorism of Hippocrates, c. 400 BCE, from the Hippocratic Corpus online (translated by Francis Adams)

Before going to study medicine, I worked for a study overseas company in Taiwan where we made this funny video about applying to UK universities!

2 months to go

I can't believe that I will be flying to China in two months to start studying medicine. It definitely is exciting. I just found this video on you tube showing photos of Zhejiang university campus. Very nice and not bad music either!
